  For those in the UK: Were you encouraged to leave school with only GCSE's?

  there was a recent thread about the oct 8th awake, on education for teen mothers.

  note, that this magazine is really catered to teen mothers who are already witnesses.

  the awake is so subtle, in fact, if you want any ideas about what's happening in the watchtower religion, read the awake!!!

  Tres intereting!

  this is the most often talked about topic whwnevr i talk to ex jws or my younger bro + sister, i left school without even trying because all i knew was that i would be unacceptable to my family and the jw cronies if i dared not pioneer. out of about 8 of us in that age group 7 pioneered and started their happy lives as window cleaners or glass technicians- or in Marks & spencer's shop flooor.it was a standard joke

  anyway i left school and since have had more than 30 jobs-simply because i'm not made for working in a factory or a shop, it is a sure way to get me running round the town centre with a machete! and so i kept moving on.

  i remeber an elders son went to uni-oh the scandal!!!!!!it was the most talked about topic for decades, and interestingly there was a lot of bitterness because he got a chance to study while the rest of us were pressurised not to. well good for him, but bad for the rest of us suckers.

  i was just thinking about how so many were so caught up in the dubs for so many years, and at the time we probably would have all felt that the truth and spreading the good news was our passion.

  me too, i am a writer and hope to be published after i complete my degree which i start in 3 weeks! i would like to write for television and i also would love to be a presenter on radio or tv.i have never been so excited in my life, im frequently crying because i cant believe i have the chance to do something about the talent ive had suppressed for years!

  Peering into my past - Snippets from my early life

  i was going through my things the other day and i came across a journal i used to keep at quite a young age.

  the mentality there is just scary.

  i was quite the budding writer with my big words but can you see all the canned thoughts and phrases lifted from the dubs and dropped into my grammar and writing style.

  gawd, I actually stood in front of my class and swore blind that the end of the world would be here before we were 50, i had worked out that the generation that saw 1914 would be just about gone by then.

  i remember being stood on the platform stating i was gonna be the congregations first missionary too.(actually it turned out to be my older brother)

  what hurt was the aftermath when people told me that i was so naive to have been so 'into' the "troof" and not seen it for what it was.i was so hurt that i believed everything without question. i have nothing left of my past life now, all my assembly photos and programs were flushed down the loo

  i had a funny experience when i lived in a secure block of flats; i set fire (controlled) to all the books and mags in the bathroom but it sent off the fire alarms in the whole 14 storey building. i tried to ring the concierge to tell them all was fine but the alarms were so loud they couldnt hear me.10 mins later there was a bang at my door which i was too embarrased to answer only my younger brother said it was the fire brigade and if i didn't answer the door they would break it down, so there i stood explaining to the fire chief what i had done while the fire crew were rooting around my flat to check it out.

  i kinda felt i went out with a bang,and that is sweet.

  didnt you love being dragged door to door as a kid in the wind and snow, sub zero temperature wearing a skirt and you were told to smile and inform the householder you wanted to be there?

  (dragged out of bed at the crack of dawn on one of the few days you should have off from school) .

  and then there is that wonderful service car.

  yeah yeah,

  I had poor blood circulation and i used to be stood at the doors in winter with my flary mary flowery skirt wrapped round my ears in the wind and my fingers and lips would be bright blue. - and you know if a black person goes blue thats serious sh*t!

  many times my mother was told by horrified persons that she should be ashamed of herself bringing me out and my being made to go door to door was tantamount to child abuse.

  yeah yeah i wish the authorities had taken me away.(sigh)

  well i would have a lot to spend on myself (like i'm worried about that)because non of my JW family would accept any money or gifts that were procured as part of something so ungodly as the lotto. i would travel the world and hope they would at least keep the post cards i sent them. also i'd have to write a will pretty qwik cos i like fast cars!

  Older sisters and long hair- now a no-no?

  ran into a jw yesterday who didn't mind talking to me.

  she is 50+ and wears her hair long, about to the middle of her back.

  she said she's been told by the brothers to cut her hair, that women her age should have short hair styles.

  hmm .what b**locks ! that sounds a lot like this elder in my old k.h. he wouldn't allow his wife to perm her hair as it was worldly and he said it loudly for my friends benefit as she just had her hair permed. this was his own personal opinion - and believe me he had many, i think he was on a mission to re-write the bible single handedly.

  incidentaly he was a bald git and if he wasn't bald he would still be a git.

  I can't believe I did it!!!

  well my fellow compatriots, since i haven't posted any topics lately of an interesting or fascinating nature (and probably never have in the past either); i just thought you might all like to know that yesterday i took the plunge and put a closure on my 4 decades of being one of them there jw's.

  you guessed it...i went and got myself a tattoo!

  just needed to share this important moment in history.

  last week i got my belly button pierced (i want tatoos really but im too dark) and i web cammed it to every one i know! now my family know there is no way back for me from the dark side.

  for 20+ years and slid out of the back door in 1998(no-one noticed me slide) and when i went out into the big bad world i found i was completely naive and clueless as i had lived in a tiny shell all my life, for example i had never met a gay person and i believed every non member was evil and out to get me.. has anyone any similar experiences?how did you get the past out of your mind and move on?

  ha. i used to be the same about america.

  go do one - means get lost/go away, same as 'get knotted'

  to beef means to cry, if someone is crying they are said to be 'beefing'

  too snog means to kiss

  a git is derived from a get, an old person is an old git for example, its just a derrog. term for someone you don't think too highly of though it is not a very aggressive term
